“Happy Ending” is the closing track of Midterms, an EP I made during the run-up to the 2022 midterm elections. It’s the most explicitly political song I’ve ever written. It was my attempt to address the rise of the far right in our country, and to delineate the movement’s takeover of the Republican Party. I shot this video in a remote cabin in the Adirondacks over the course of a couple of days, then interlaced that material with found footage of the January 6th insurrection and other far-right rallies, as well as a beautiful 1998 Super 8 short film, Rhode Island Summer, made by the contemporary photographer Tina Barney and Dianna Ilk.
