Untitled [Winnipeg]

Graphite on paper, 2018. 14 by 11 inches.

I’ve encountered this view nearly 30 times over the past 20 years. It’s what I see from the window of the airplane as it begins its descent into Winnipeg, the central Canadian city where we printed every issue of Esopus (and a number of publications since). I visited Winnipeg for press runs for all 25 issues of Esopus (as well as a trip for Robert Gober’s Hope Hill Road multiple for Premium subscribers in the fall of 2011). Seeing this vista engenders the feeling I always have as I’m about to land in this mysterious (and often snow-covered) landscape—a mixture of excitement, relief, and intense anticipation.
