In Process: Tina Barney

“In Process” was a series of conversations with creative professionals I presented over the course of a year at Soho House and Dumbo House in New York City. Its goal was to offer insight into the creative process of individuals working in a wide range of disciplines. This particular installment featured a conversation with the photographer Tina Barney. Tina is perhaps best known for her large-scale, psychologically resonant color photographs of affluent friends and family, but a lesser-known aspect of her work is her fashion photography, which has included ad campaigns for Christian Dior, Tory Burch, Bottega Veneta, and Theory, among others; and editorial work for publications such as Vogue, Arena Homme +, and The New York Times. During our conversation, Tina went into depth with me about this considerable body of work, including a 2017 long-form collaboration with director Greta Gerwig, featuring Florence Welch, for W magazine, and a recent shoot for Town and Country featuring Chloe Sevigny.
