PRIVATE MATTERS

Moss Club, 520 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY, June 25, 2025–June 25, 2026

For this event, held In conjunction with an exhibition at New York's Moss Club of photographs from my Private series, I had the pleasure of talking about Private—and the art world in general—with Bianca Bosker, author of the best-seller Get the Picture. For her book, Bianca fully immersed herself in the contemporary art world over the course of several years. The Atlantic writer worked at several galleries, served as a studio assistant to the painter Julie Curtiss, visited art-world events, fairs, and artists' studios, and even became a security guard at the Guggenheim Museum. The resultant book offers a fascinating and unprecedented glimpse into this notoriously insular world.

Over the course of our conversation, we explored what that insularity is about, and discussed how it manifests itself in ways even more nuanced than the presence of "PRIVATE" signs or velvet ropes in gallery spaces. The evening also included a screening of the eponymous single-channel video I created for an exhibition at The Future Perfect in Los Angeles in 2024, and concluded with a reception for attendees.
