Esopus 1 launch party, Satellite Gallery, NY, October 21, 2003
I started Esopus in 2003 with a very clear mission in place—to create an accessible, noncommercial forum in which creative people and the general public could connect directly. Because I was essentially the only person involved with the production of the magazine (with a stable of nearly 50 incredible interns) over the course of 15 or so years, and owing to the fact that it demanded pretty much all of my attention and focus, my mother often referred to Esopus as her “other grandchild.” It only seemed fitting, when the Esopus archive was acquired by Colby College Libraries in 2019, to tell people I had sent my kid to college.
